Superb character, 19th Century oriental side table of Chinese origin. Black lacquered finish with decorative gilt detailing intertwined with Greek Key pattern in a wonderful deep red colour, the tone of which seems unmatched and is a key feature of authentic far eastern culture. Greek key patterns have been used since antiquity to create borders and frames in almost every kind of design but Chinese designs have a distinct look and feel.
Rural life scenes to each side panel, flanked by a sculptured square leg which extends to a lower shelf and squared feet.
Overall Height = 59cm / 23″, height to shelf 21cm/8.25″.
Condition report
The table is in remarkable original condition; very little restoration work has been carried out to this piece, some repairs made to a wobbly leg but other than that, all the age related wear and patina have been retained to maintain the originality of the piece. A characterful piece that has a wonderful interior design quality, clean and ready for installation.
